MCN puts Dunlop at the top of the pile

Motorcycle News (MCN) has put the new Dunlop Qualifier II tyre on the top of the sports bike pile this week after the official Dunlop tyre launch in mid March.

Senior Road Tester at MCN, Michael Neeves, tested the tyre in the wet and dry at Dunlop's test track in the south of France. His report claims that the new Dunlop tyre is "2009's most important sports tyre."

Lift the bonnet of any car and you'll see the marvel that is the internal combustion engine. But when you go to buy a car are you worried what's under the bonnet beneath? Engines have been in development since 1206 but it was only in 1879 when Karl Benz working independently was granted a patent for his internal combustion engine that they truly went into production. In today's technological advanced age we have numerous choices, we are going to look a variety and see how they differ - the straight/inline unit, the Flat/Boxer engine, which you can find in the Subaru family or you can plumb for a Rotary engine called the Wankel - best known for powering the Mazda Rx-7 and Rx-8.

The one to have started the hot hatch phenonoman was the 1977 VW Golf Gti Mk1 - (although technically the first "true" hot hatch was the Simca 1100 dating from 1967/8).

The most iconic...was the Golf GTi

The first Golf was designed by the famous Italian automobile architect Giorgetto Giugiaro, of the ItalDesign design studio.

For some, driving has lost its magic; the joy of the open road has been replaced by the slog of the daily commute. Sitting in endless traffic jams and then searching for that elusive parking space. Town planners haven't helped the situation either, with complex one way systems and pedestrian crossings every twenty yards blighting our town centres.

Then there are buses which stop and start with monotonous regularity meaning that even if you do find a straight piece of tarmac, there will be an object the same length as your house, pushing its way into your path.
